Justin Torres, author of We the Animals—adapted to film and out now in theaters, and Valentine Freeman, the film’s costume designer, came of age as dirtbag queer punk artists in 1990s San Francisco. Their forthcoming interview comes out in The Believer in October, and to celebrate the film’s release they’ve imagined the titles of the many other books that could have been written about their childhoods and misadventures. If you’re in New York or Los Angeles, get ye to the theater and bring a hanky.
